DeleteVery nice poem Sunaina. The contrast between the two villages in the same state in striking. Wonder how the change in mindset came by.
ReplyDeleteYes I wonder too...and when I had read about Devra, it shocked me so much that I dreamt about it.....so many girls who might have been born there but could not....that made me write this poem....the villagers of Rajasmand are an inspiration to many.
Delete"They see her as just a vessel
ReplyDeleteTo carry their blind dreams
Of sons, of legacy, of lineage"
These are just hard hitting beautiful lines capturing the regressive thoughts that still exists in certain places.
thanks Salvwi.....It really hurts that rigid mindsets fail to see the humanness of a woman and a daughter.....I cry silently as I see such injustices....or rather horrors being carried out in society....
DeleteA beautiful poem. Loved reading it. Wish there was a way to bring a change in mindset about how India thinks about its daugthers - not only when they are to be born but also when they grow up.
